Living Rooms With Skylights

The architects of the homes below know the power of the skylight in harnessing the sun and flooding a space with dazzling natural light. Strategically placed, these stunning architectural elements bring the beauty of the outdoors inside while providing natural light throughout the home.

With the ultimate use of natural light in mind, designers Artenid created this contemporary home with a wall of windows spanning the living room and a grid of skylights spanning the width of the room. White marble was used throughout the space to bounce light deeper into the home's interior.

A beautiful courtyard filled with climbing vines, brilliant-hued plants and varying shades of greenery is brought to life by a skylight and accompanying plate glass windows. The natural design elements within the space meld organically with the indoor garden and outdoors beyond.

This home by architect George Nijland shows how skylights can be used to provide natural light in longer spaces with very few windows.

The house at the sea in New Zealand

It is the house for romantics. Here everything is created to enjoy privacy and the unique nature of New Zealand – a remarkable big terrace, glass walls, a fireplace, the well-groomed green territory. And after all also the sand beach is in 20 meters from the house! In my opinion, it is modern idyll.

Modern Bathroom Inspiration 2013

Good modern design is to be found in a clear concept, a corresponding and consistent theme, precise execution and a commitment to an interior philosophy, and while this will inevitably produce an impressive and credible space it may not satisfy the inhabitant in every way. Few professional interior designers endorse different styles in every room of the house, but the opportunity to experiment with individuality comes with spaces private in nature. Bathrooms lend themselves to personalization due to the function they serve. A bathroom should be a place where an individual, alone and at rest, feels completely comfortable, content and calm, no matter what image the greater space endeavors to project. Here are the ones that caught our attention lately and we are calling it the 2013 inspiration set.

In the spirit of highly individual design, the 'Be Yourself' contest, brainchild of industry leaders, challenged visualizers to create the ultimate bathroom. This concept by Deluxe Home Creation Studio was the viewer's favorite and it's not difficult to see why. However, starting with images of grandeur is not such a bad idea. Even for a personal / residential project it is possible to gain inspiration from images such as these and scale them down to fit comfortably within standard spaces, keeping elements such as a simple water feature or simulated rain shower as part of the fundamental ideal.

12 Beautiful Children’s Rooms

Designing a child's bedroom can be very challenging considering the fast pace in which kids are growing up these days. It's hard enough keeping up with endless influx of technological gadgets before finding ways to store all of these "next best things". But alas, there are fun innovative storage solutions disguised by splashes of color that would make any room look like a three dimensional Picasso! In these beautifully designed rooms below, the perfect balance of practicality and creativity has been achieved and will easily appeals to parents and children alike.

The brilliant color combination of the beds, area rugs, closet units and desks are striking and set an exciting tone against the whimsical shapes and forms they create.

Wall art has also become a convenient way to dress up a child's room, delivering simplicity with a punch of character in its application.

Even these twin bunk beds have loads of style and provide multifunction built-in shelving, staircases and storage units!

Kitchen Cabinetry in a New Light

It is rare that we consider kitchen cabinetry to be an additional source of light, but that may just be the defining characteristic of these compositions from Leicht, Germany. Recessed spot and down-lighting is maximized by the reflective nature of high gloss lacquering and aluminum shelving, which is incorporated into a clean, modular aesthetic that lends itself to the covert demands of kitchen storage. Leicht also demonstrates a willingness to experiment with bold colors, either in the application of lacquered segments or in feature walls that serve as a dramatic backdrop for the units, and whether you love or hate it, it certainly contributes to the individuality of the space.

In a departure from a sleek facade that has not the need for handles, the cabinets featured in this image are altogether more reminiscent of a French farmhouse kitchen, albeit still a modern interpretation. The choice in flooring supports the exposed industrial display of the kitchen utensils, which hang atop a meeting of worktop and wall. It is interesting that Leicht has decided not to isolate the worktop in the typical kitchen island fashion, but viewers will notice the openness and sizable impression of the space, just as they will, the way in which this allows the honest flooring material to be showcased in its best light.

Finally, this dramatic burgundy and black combination offers an alternative to a palette that is more commonly associated with kitchens. However, such a combination relies heavily on the greater space to provide the necessary natural light, which is why it is best suited to the setting pictured here.
